Prescribed burn planned for near Lavington
A prescribed burn is scheduled for later this month near Harvey Lake reservoir.
The B.C. Wildfire Service said that a 40 hectare area southeast of Lavington will be part of the burn that’s starting Friday, March 27, if weather and conditions are suitable.
The prescribed burn aims to contribute to research in assessing fire behaviour in chipped fuel beds, which could help inform future treatment plans in other areas. It also aims to reduce future wildfire risks, protect communities, and restore the ecosystem.
The work will cause smoke to be visible from Lavington, Coldstream, Vernon, Lumby, Trinity Valley and surrounding areas, as well as to travelers along Highway 6.
