High avalanche risk for Revelstoke, Monashees and other ranges

Mar 18, 2026 | 12:30 PM

Avalanche Canada is warning people that the Upper Arrow Lakes and Upper Columbia areas are at High Risk of avalanche.

The agency said the regions that include Revelstoke and the Monashees had high risks of avalanche at all elevations Wednesday, March 18, and those conditions were expected to persist through to the weekend.

“Avoid avalanche terrain,” Avalanche Canada warned.

“A natural avalanche cycle has started and is expected to continue for a few days. Avalanches will be large and may run full path.”

Avalanche Canada advised people to stay out of the backcountry, to avoid exposure to overhead avalanche terrain, be aware of the potential for large avalanches, and avoid travelling on slopes below cornices.

The Okanagan and Shuswap areas had a moderate avalanche risk in the alpine areas but low risks below that as of Wednesday.
