Barger homers in Toronto Blue Jays’ 3-2 pre-season loss to Baltimore Orioles

DUNEDIN — Addison Barger hit a solo homer for the Toronto Blue Jays in a 3-2 pre-season loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday at TD Ballpark.

The Orioles (9-11) scored two runs in the opening frame against Toronto starter Josh Fleming.

Six Toronto pitchers worked in relief after Fleming’s two-inning appearance.

George Springer had a double for the Blue Jays (9-13), who had five hits on the afternoon.

Toronto was 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

Albert Suarez worked four innings for the win.

After the game, the Blue Jays optioned catcher Brandon Valenzuela to the Triple-A Buffalo roster. They also assigned catcher Robert Brooks and infielders Rafael Lantigua, Carlos Mendoza, Josh Rivera and Riley Tirotta to minor-league camp.
