Mounties are warning the public about a man filming people without permission in Kelowna and Penticton.

Penticton RCMP said the man had been observed videotaping businesses and individuals without consent, claiming to be recording a podcast aimed at educating the public on laws around filming in public places, though police said “his objectives remain unclear.”

A number of complaints involving this individual had been reported from members of the public and business owners, saying he was being intimidating and displaying disturbing behaviour.

The man has mainly been seen wearing high-visibility style clothing and recording on a cellphone, and police advise business owners and the public to be aware of his presence and to report any concerning or disruptive behaviours.

“If this individual films you in a way that feels intrusive, disruptive, or concerning, please do not engage,” Penticton RCMP said in a release.

Instead, document the incident when safe to do so and report it.”

Anyone who has an immediate safety concern was also asked to call 911, though non-emergency reports can be reported to the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300.
