Kelowna council to expand power for small real estate deals
Kelowna council is looking at a new bylaw that would let city staff handle more small real estate transactions.
If approved, staff could buy or sell city land and buildings up to $250,000. This would cover routine projects like road dedications, rights-of-way, and other small purchases tied to the city’s 10-year Capital Plan.
City officials say the change will speed up approvals, save staff time, and reduce council workload. All deals would still need fair market value checks, third-party appraisals, and annual reports to keep the process transparent.
The updated bylaw also simplifies procedures, sets clear limits, and keeps council involved in bigger or expropriation deals. Council will review the proposal and consider it for a vote soon.
