The local agency that supports survivors of domestic and sexual violence is getting a boost.

Enactus Okanagan College has donated $7,500 to Archway Society for Domestic Peace.

The donation through Enactus OC’s Safe Haven Project will support women and families recovering from domestic violence by providing them with grants for housing and connecting them to one-on-one financial coaching through Launch Okanagan.

“It is incredibly important as a community to support survivors of domestic violence and provide them with resources that support their dignity, safety and recovery,” Mackenzie Friesen, Project Manager of the Safe Haven Project, said.

“I am incredibly proud of the work we have done with the Safe Haven Project to accomplish this.”

The Safe Haven Project also provides individuals from Archway access to trauma-informed therapy from Connect Counselling and Therapy.

“Thank you to Enactus Okanagan College for their Safe Haven campaign,” Sydney Feeney, Finance Officer at Archway Society for Domestic Peace, stated.

“Their generosity has helped women and children who are victims of domestic violence find safety, connection and hope when they need it most. Providing housing, counselling and support for these individuals ensures they can take steps forward towards healing and strength and help break the cycle of violence.”

The college touted the Safe Have Project as it reflects the strength of both the students and the OC Enactus, the student-led organization that helps with leadership skills development and contributions through social, economic and environmental initiatives.

“Enactus Okanagan College continues to demonstrate what our students are capable of when they apply their business education to real community needs,” Christine Sjolander, associate dean of the Hall School of Business and Entrepreneurship at OC, said.

“Projects like Safe Haven exemplify the values of Okanagan College: leadership, innovation and social responsibility. We are incredibly proud of the students who drive this work and of the meaningful impact they are creating across the region.”

The monetary donation to Archway was supported by Enactus OC, Okanagan College Faculty Association, and Pushor Mitchell LLP, while the connection to counselling services was made possible through contributions from the Doane Grant Thornton Foundation and Enactus OC.
