A man lost his life in a crash on the highway near Polson Park Thursday morning.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a report of a deceased person in the eastbound lanes of the highway near the intersection of 27th Street at 7:25 a.m. Feb. 12, and investigators determined the pedestrian was in the “travel portion of the highway when he was struck by a vehicle, described as the cab section of a commercial tractor unit, travelling east on Highway 6.”

The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries in the crash, and the vehicle did not stay on the scene.

“It is of the utmost importance that the police speak with the driver of the semi and we are urging them to come forward,” Cpl. Tania Finn, Media Relations Officer with the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, stated.

“To assist with the investigation, police are requesting witnesses and anyone with dash cam footage from the area around the time of the collision to come forward.”

Anyone who has information about the fatal crash, including anyone who had dashcam footage from Highway 6 between the Science Centre and 27th Street between 7 a.m. and 7:25 a.m. were urged to contact the RCMP at 250-545-7171.

The investigation resulted in the eastbound lanes of Highway 6 between 25th Ave. and 27th St. to be closed Thursday morning.

Police added that the B.C. Coroners Service was also investigating the death.

The RCMP have notified the family of the decease, and they have been connected to Vernon Victim Services.
