The City of Vernon lowered its flags to honour those lost in the shooting in Tumbler Ridge.

As of the latest RCMP report the shooting at the Northern B.C. community caused the death of nine people, with another 25 people injured.

The City of Vernon said the shooting was a devastating event and has had deep impacts on communities across B.C.

To honour those who were killed or injured, the flags at all city owned buildings were lowered to half staff Wednesday, and will remain lowered for seven days.

“On behalf of Council and the City of Vernon, I want to express our sincere condolences to the families, extended families, and the entire Tumbler Ridge community,” Mayor Victor Cumming stated.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy, and our thoughts are with everyone affected. Vernon stands with Tumbler Ridge during this difficult time.”

The City of Vernon added it acknowledges this period as a time to reflect on the lives affected in the attack and for holding the victims, their loved ones, first responders, and the entire Tumbler Ridge community in their thoughts.
