Controlled burns underway in Rose Valley Regional Park
The Regional District of Central Okanagan has begun controlled pile burning in Rose Valley Regional Park as part of ongoing wildfire recovery efforts.
The burns, which will continue as conditions allow throughout the open burning season, are helping remove leftover debris from the 2023 McDougall Creek wildfire and reduce future fire risk.
Residents may notice smoke and flames within the park and from across Okanagan Lake, but officials urge the public to call 9-1-1 only if fire appears outside the park boundaries. Trained crews are monitoring the operation closely.
The RDCO encourages residents to sign up for email notifications at rdco.com/subscribe for updates on the recovery process and other park activities.
