The local group that helps people learn and improve their reading has a new leader in charge.

Michelle Bylow has been appointed as the new Executive Director for the Literary Society of the North Okanagan.

The Society said Bylow has “more than 10 years of executive leadership experience, with a strong background in program development, operational strengthening, and organizational growth.”

The group also said the new Executive Director has “a deep commitment to community development and equitable access to opportunity,” and that it “looks forward to the continued growth and strengthened community partnerships.”

Bylow replaced Debbie Nurse, who served as the Society’s Executive Director for five years. During that time, Nurse helped strengthen the organization, expanded funding, implemented essential systems, and rebuilt programs and fundraising efforts following the COVID-19 pandemic, and the group said “her work has positioned the Society for continued success.”

Additionally, Wendy Aasen, who served as the Literary Society’s Executive Director from 2013 to 2021, and helped with the establishment in the Learning Centre is the final year at that role, is now retiring.
