Mount Boucherie Community Centre project on schedule, under budget
Renovations at the Mount Boucherie Community Centre are moving ahead on schedule.
City officials reported to council on January 27, work has included demolition of interior walls, removal of flooring, ceiling tiles, furniture, and hazardous materials including asbestos and vermiculite. Contractors have also installed safety fencing and signage, and are addressing structural and acoustic requirements identified during the demolition process.
The centre will be a joint-use facility, offering childcare, community space, and city administrative offices when completed. The project budget of $4.8 million remains on track, with final costs forecasted at just over $4.2 million and a contingency of $550,000. Substantial completion is expected in September.
City council approved the funding strategy last fall, combining ChildCare BC New Spaces funding, MBCC restoration reserves, and the Community Growth Fund.
