Kelowna RCMP crack down on school zone speeders

Jan 29, 2026 | 11:07 AM

Kelowna RCMP officers issued more than 150 tickets during a targeted speed and distracted driving blitz in local school zones on Tuesday.

The eight-hour campaign, led by the Municipal Traffic Unit, focused on protecting children traveling to and from school. Officers said nearly all the drivers stopped were travelling more than 20 kilometres an hour over the posted 30 km/h limit.

Each offence carries fines ranging from $196 to $368, as well as demerit points.

“Motorists need to slow down and give their full attention to the road,” said Cpl. Steven Lang, Kelowna RCMP media relations officer. “Officers will continue their work to improve road safety in our community.”
