Washroom facilities by Rail Trail closed for season

Jan 17, 2026 | 6:00 AM

The heated public washrooms at Coldstream Station have been closed for the winter.

The District of Coldstream said the facilities are a critical amenity for visitors, tourists and trail users over the summer months, but over the winter they face challenges related to vandalism, theft and general misuse.

“During the off-season, particularly in colder months, incidents of vandalism increase substantially,” a report from Coldstream staff said.

“Common issues include broken dispenser locks and, in some cases, complete destruction of paper towel and toilet paper dispensers. Replacement costs for these units range from $200 to $500 each, creating an ongoing financial burden for the District.”

To reduce these incidents, Coldstream decided to close the washrooms effective January 15. They will reopen on March 15.

Starting later this year (2026), the washrooms will be closed to the public starting November 15, and will reopen again in mid-March.

A single, barrier-free portable washroom was set up and will remain open for use while the washroom facilities are closed over the winter months.
