West Kelowna moves to soften 2026 property tax increase

Jan 14, 2026 | 10:54 AM

It would certainly be welcomed news for West Kelowna residents as West Kelowna council is working to reduce the city’s proposed 2026 property tax hike by one percentage point.

The draft financial plan currently projects a 7.6 per cent increase, but following feedback from residents over the holiday period, council agreed this week to aim for a revised target of 6.6 per cent.

How that reduction will be achieved is still unclear, with staff now tasked with examining potential cuts to reserve contributions, municipal services, or a combination of the two.

Council was somewhat divided during Tuesday’s meeting. Some members warned that reducing services could leave the city unprepared for future growth, while others argued that residents are already stretched and need immediate relief.
