Vernon North Okanagan RCMP had to deploy a spike strip to stop a stolen vehicle Monday night.

Police received a report of a suspicious SUV driving onto a property in Grindrod at about 9:45 p.m. Jan. 12, and then an occupant getting out and stealing a pickup truck.

The owner of the truck witnessed the theft and followed the stolen vehicle and suspect SUV down Highway 97A, while also keeping RCMP informed of their travels.

RCMP intercepted and disabled the stolen vehicle, which wound up coming to rest in a field near Lansdowne Road in Spallumcheen. The driver of the stolen vehicle was arrested on site without further incident.

Shortly after the truck was disabled, police located the suspect SUV on Powerhouse Road. The driver and another occupant of that vehicle were also taken into custody, and police later learned that the SUV was also stolen.

All three suspects remained in custody pending a court appearance Tuesday.
