Sustainability Grants supporting three local projects

The City of Vernon is supporting three projects with its biannual Sustainability Grants program.

Through the program, the city will provide funding for the following projects:

• $2,000 to develop a community garden at a multi-unit strata at 4100 24th Ave.
• $2,000 to create a composting system for the East Hill Community Garden
• $2,000 to install a water bottle refilling station in the downtown Vernon library

The city has a total budget of $12,000 for the program, and dispenses those funds through two intake periods during the year.

As the program has limited funding, the city declined to support funding applications for six other groups seeking to connect Vernon families with outdoor experiences; creating videos to promote and educate residents about the local trail systems; replacing decorative lights with higher efficiency LED bulbs; hosting workshops around recycling construction materials and reusing asphalt; and mapping outdoor education locations for place-based learning opportunities.
