UPDATE: Precautionary Boil Water Notice rescinded for VSS and surrounding area

Dec 31, 2025 | 11:25 AM

Update 1:30 p.m. Jan 6

The precautionary Boil Water Notice issued following a water main break near Vernon Secondary School on Dec. 30 has been lifted.

The RDNO says bacterial testing shows the water in the system that serves VSS and properties in the surrounding area had disinfection levels within the safe drinking water standard, and the notice was lifted Tuesday, Jan. 6.

Vernon Secondary School and select homes in the surrounding neighbourhood have been put under a Precautionary Boil Water Notice.

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) said a large water main break Tuesday, Dec. 30, led to a loss of water pressure for the school and for properties on 18th Street, 21st Avenue and Pottery Road.

People residing in the highlighted properties were advised to bring their tap water to a rolling boil for a full minute before drinking; using to make food or drink, including washing fruits and vegetables, making ice, or preparing baby formula; and brushing teeth.

Affected properties may also have discoloured water or air in their pipes. In these cases people should run their cold taps until the water turns clear, with the RDNO recommending this being done using an outdoor tap.

The Precautionary Boil Water Notice will be rescinded once sample testing shows the bacterial levels in the system are within the safe drinking range.
