Highway 1 closed near Golden due to vehicle incident, avalanche control work

The highway connecting B.C. and Alberta was closed Wednesday for two separate purposes.

RCMP say a semi truck was travelling on Highway 1 east of Golden at around 6:22 a.m. Dec. 10 when it spun out and crossed the centre line. The truck was then struck by another semi and a car.

Investigators determined the snowy weather played a significant role in the incident.

“Fortunately, there were no injuries in this incident, but the highway was closed for some time.” RCMP spokesperson, Cpl. Brett Urano, stated.

“The highway is closed in both directions due to the vehicle incident and avalanche control.”

The avalanche control work forced the highway to be closed at Rogers Pass between Revelstoke and Golden at 11 a.m., with the goal of having the work done and the road reopened by midnight.
