Kelowna council reviews preliminary 2026 budget with tax increase proposed
Kelowna city council has received an overview of the 2026 preliminary budget, providing a framework for next year’s financial planning.
The budget is designed to support essential services, maintain city growth, and prioritize investments in community safety, infrastructure, operational efficiencies, and council priorities.
The proposed plan includes a 4.47 per cent overall tax increase, consisting of a 3.47 per cent municipal portion and a 1 per cent Public Safety Levy. The city also plans to use reserves, grants, and other revenue sources to help reduce reliance on property taxes, while maintaining a balanced budget as required by provincial law.
The presentation reviewed by council highlights the financial impacts of the preliminary budget and sets the stage for discussions on funding priorities for 2026.
