Snow delays

Snow in the forecast could slow waste collection in Central Okanagan

Dec 1, 2025 | 11:26 AM

Curbside garbage, recycling and yard waste pickup across the Central Okanagan may be delayed as early December snow begins to build. The Regional District of Central Okanagan says sudden or heavy snowfall can make neighbourhood roads unsafe for large collection trucks.

“If your garbage, recycling or yard waste is missed, please be patient,” said Cynthia Coates, Solid Waste Supervisor for the RDCO. “Unplowed and slippery roads must be cleared before collection can safely resume, and the hauler will collect it as soon as conditions allow.”

Residents are asked to notify the collection contractor if their pickup is missed and leave carts out until they are emptied. The RDCO says clearing a spot for carts, removing snow and ice from lids and keeping carts close to but not on the roadway can help drivers reach them, while avoiding snowbanks and giving about a metre of space around each cart improves access.

Information on reporting missed collection is available at rdco.com/collection.
