Play for Truth basketball event to support Splatsin Monument project

Nov 20, 2025 | 12:32 PM

The Splatsin First Nation is hosting a community basketball fundraiser Thursday evening to support the new Splatsin Monument Project.

The Play for Truth event will feature two teams, Team Truth and Team Reconciliation, made up of players from Splatsin First Nation, Enderby City Council, the Regional District of North Okanagan Area F Director’s office, and local RCMP detachments.

Entry to the event will be by donation, and the First Nation hopes to raise $20,000 from the event that will then be put towards the Splatsin Monument Project, which aims to honour Splatsin ancestors and ensure future generations know their homeland.

“This event is about more than basketball — it’s about coming together as a community to honour the Splatsin ancestors and ensure their stories live on for generations,” Allysa Hopkins, RDNO Vice Chair and Director of Area F, stated.

“The Splatsin Monument Project stands as a powerful symbol of truth and reconciliation, and I’m proud to stand alongside our partners and neighbours in support of this meaningful cause.”

The event will be held at the Splatsin Community Centre, located at 5767 Old Vernon Road, Thursday, Nov. 20.

Doors will open at 4 p.m. and will be followed by a welcome and scoreboard dedication at 5 p.m.; a skills showcase and 3-point contest at 5:15; and tip-off for the game going at 5:45 p.m.

The event will also feature local vendors selling food and goods, a 50/50 raffle, and family-friendly activities.
