Kelowna airport terminal expansion ahead of schedule
Kelowna International Airport’s terminal expansion is moving faster than originally planned, prompting the city to adjust its 2025 budget to match the accelerated timeline.
Officials told council Monday that contractors have made strong progress thanks to overnight work and a reallocation of resources, keeping the project ahead of projections set last year. As a result, council approved adding $14.5 million from city reserves to the 2025 budget, though the total project cost remains unchanged.
The expanded terminal is now expected to open in the first quarter of 2026, several months earlier than the initial late-2026 target. To help fund the project, council also authorized $48 million in borrowing through the Municipal Finance Authority, to be repaid over 20 years.
Overall, council approved roughly $27 million in budget changes for 2025, with the airport expansion representing the largest single allocation.
