Kelowna council eyes new ‘wine village’ in McKinley Village
A new “Wine Village” could soon join Kelowna’s tourism scene near McKinley Village.
City council is considering a zoning amendment to allow for the development on Hilltown Drive in McKinley. The proposal would permit an Alcohol Production Facility on the 4.86-hectare property, providing shared production space for local vintners and farmers.
The plan includes a central manufacturing building and 15 to 20 individual tasting suites, each producing a minimum of 4,500 litres per year. Lounges would allow wine sales by the glass or bottle, along with food service.
City staff support the project, noting it aligns with Official Community Plan policies for rural lands and agricultural protection. Customer access would be via Hilltown Drive, while commercial traffic would use a lower road off Magnum Drive. Two vineyard areas are also planned.
