Sewer project that faced major delays pausing through winter

A major project that has disrupted traffic for residents in Coldstream will be wrapping up for the season.

The District of Coldstream said the Aberdeen Road sanitary sewer system upgrade project had seen the mainline laid from Selkirk to Venables Drives, and crews were going to prepare the road for repaving.

It was expected that would start on the week of Nov. 17, and once completed, the roads would reopen to vehicle traffic.

The road had been closed for several months due to the project, which was delayed after hard rock was found underground where the sewer line was supposed to go.

The fall wrap up was also delayed due to complications with removing that rock.

The pause in the work will only be in place through the winter, with construction starting up again in the spring. It was projected that the project would be fully complete by September of 2026.

Meanwhile, Coldstream also saw progress made on other infrastructure projects ahead of the winter.

A district staff report said the rehabilitation of Uplands Drive was completed, as was the additional drainage work. The culvert trenches were scheduled to be paved in early November, with the district noting the project was on time and on budget.

The roads in the community had also been made safer for pedestrians and motorists. The district said it had completed the installation of a signalled pedestrian light at the corner of Kalamalka Road. and Westkal Road, had installed three-way stops along Kalamalka Road, and had installed a third raised crosswalk near Coldstream Elementary School.

The report also stated that the new irrigation system had been installed at Coldstream Park, which had fully reopened to the public as of time of publication. That project was also noted to be on time and on budget.
