Kelowna council receives update on Parkinson Recreation Centre redevelopment

Oct 21, 2025 | 10:45 AM

Kelowna Council received an update Monday on the redevelopment of Parkinson Recreation Centre, a project the city has prioritized for more than a decade.

Construction is progressing on schedule, with site preparation complete and crews now working on excavations, foundations, and underground infrastructure. A major concrete slab pour is planned for early November, creating a reinforced base for the new two-storey facility, which will be 3.5 times larger than the existing centre.

The redeveloped centre will include a gymnasium, aquatics area, fitness spaces, multi-purpose activity rooms, childcare facilities, and enhanced park amenities including sports fields, courts, plazas, playgrounds, and walking and cycling trails. Foundation work will continue through November, with steel installation and wall framing expected before year-end.

The building is also on track to meet LEED Gold and Zero Carbon Building Design certifications, as well as Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Gold standards.
