Kelowna council approves permit for new Gurdwara
Kelowna City Council has approved a development permit for a new Gurdwara at 2809 Benvoulin Road. The two-storey building will cover about 2,428 square metres and feature two gold-coloured domes, tall arches, and a mix of stucco, vinyl, and metal finishes.
The site will include 146 parking spaces, a small garden, a plaza with a flagpole, and raised garden planters for producing fruits and vegetables to donate to those in need. The landscape plan calls for 121 trees and 339 shrubs, including a four-metre buffer along the north and east edges of the property.
Council’s approval is conditional on meeting design, siting, and landscaping requirements. The permit is valid for two years and cannot be extended.
Staff said the building’s design meets city guidelines while reflecting its religious and community purpose.
