Vernon’s revised Official Community Plan available to the public

Oct 16, 2025 | 1:10 PM

The City of Vernon has revised its document outlining plans for managing future community growth.

Vernon City Council received an updated version of the Official Community Plan (OCP), the document that details how the city will manage a growing population through housing, infrastructure and other municipal projects, at the regular meeting Tuesday, October 14.

The updated version of the OCP received first and second readings at the council meeting, and was released so that the public could read through it and understand the goals and purposes of the long-term growth strategy.

The 281 page document had received over updates since it was last seen by the public, however, those were mainly focused on wording, maps and images, and other ways to improve clarity within the plan. The changes were made based on input from referrals and committees, and City Council member input.

The city will refer the revised OCP to the Okanagan Indian Band, Regional District of North Okanagan, and the Agricultural Land Commission in mid-October.

The city will then hold a public hearing regarding the OCP, followed by the third and final readings of the document on November 10.

Vernon’s new OCP will be adopted in December.
