The City of Vernon’s administrative head is leaving his position and moving to the coast after just one year on the job.

The city said the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Peter Weeber, will leave his role in Vernon to become the next City Manager for the City of Delta.

Weeber became Vernon’s CAO on November 4, 2024, bringing with him years of administrative leadership for municipalities throughout B.C.

The city said his work over the past year helped advance Vernon council’s strategic priorities and community initiatives, such as helping make progress on housing, sustainability, transportation, and livability. The city added he also helped create a renewed focus on organizational innovation, operational efficiency, and public engagement.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to have served this incredible community,” Weeber said.

“Over the past year, Vernon has made real strides—advancing long-term plans and delivering on issues that matter most to residents. The City of Vernon is powered by dedicated, forward-thinking professionals who care deeply about this community and its future. With a clear vision and a solid foundation, Vernon is well-equipped for continued growth and success.”

Weeber will officially leave his post on November 16, 2025, just over one year into his tenure.

“While it is disappointing to share that Peter is leaving, we are grateful for the strong, strategic, entrepreneurial leadership he brought to the city—paired with a productive sense of urgency that helped drive results,” Mayor Victor Cumming stated.

“His dedication to advancing key projects and enhancing how the city serves its residents has made a lasting impact. On behalf of Council, I want to thank him for his contributions and wish him continued success with the City of Delta.”

The city said Weeber would continue to support priority projects and key files. It was noted that he would remain involved with the city through the completion of the 2026 budget process in December, and would provide ongoing support on key initiatives into the new year.

The City of Vernon said it was in the process of looking for a new CAO as of October 16, stating it wants to find an individual with vision, experience and operational pace to help advance Vernon’s strategic direction and deliver quality service to the community.
