Suspect defrauds thousands of dollars in Kelowna ‘grandchild scam’
Kelowna RCMP have issued a warning about a scam that has seen thousands of dollars stolen from unsuspecting people by a man who arrived at the victims’ homes.
In both cases the victims received a phone call from a man claiming to be the lawyer of their grandchild who had been arrested and was in jail following a fictitious criminal matter.
The male suspect visited two residences Wednesday, in the 600 block of San Michelle Road and the 1300 block of KLO Road. In each case he took $5,000 from the victim.
He’s described as light-skinned, approximately 6 foot tall with dark, slicked back hair, long sideburns, strong smelling cologne, and carrying an iPad.
