City Park pathway closes for upgrades, detours in place until 2026

Sep 26, 2025 | 10:59 AM

A section of the City Park pathway will be closed starting next week as crews begin a series of upgrades expected to last until summer 2026.

The closure affects the stretch between the Colds Sands washroom and the Park Entrance at Bernard Avenue. Pedestrians will be detoured along the cenotaph pathway, while cyclists are being redirected along Abbott Street. The rest of City Park will remain open during construction, though temporary closures in other areas may occur.

City officials say the improvements include a separated pathway, new benches, updated lighting, landscaping, better water access near the cenotaph plaza, foreshore upgrades, and utility work. Visitors are reminded to follow posted signage and instructions from construction personnel to ensure safety while moving through the area.

The City says the upgrades are part of ongoing infrastructure investments aimed at creating and enhancing public spaces for community gatherings, recreation, and exercise.
