Youth secure soccer nets in Coldstream park
Advocacy from two local youths have led to a change in amenities at a local park.
Grayson and Griffin Poulter wrote a letter to Coldstream Council in July of 2024, requesting that soccer nets be installed at Middleton Mountain. They followed that letter up by attending a council meeting, where they presented their case in person and advocated for enhancing the local recreational opportunities for themselves and the community.
Council received the request and directed staff to review the costs and installation options. Those results were brought back to Council where they were approved, leading to the two brand-new soccer nets being installed at the park in August of 2025.
“This is a fantastic example of how members of our community—regardless of age—can have a real impact through constructive participation,” Mayor Ruth Hoyte said in a media release.
