Suspicious fires continue in West Kelowna, RCMP investigating

Sep 24, 2025 | 10:10 AM

Residents in West Kelowna remain on high alert after two fires were set Monday evening in the Lower Gellatly area, marking the latest in a series of suspicious blazes in the community.

Both fires were quickly extinguished by West Kelowna Fire Rescue, but authorities say the incidents are human-caused and suspicious. West Kelowna Fire Chief Jason Brolund told Vernon Matters Wednesday morning. “We are working closely with the RCMP to determine a cause.”

He added: “These are human-caused fires and are considered suspicious. We are asking anyone with any information to contact RCMP.”

The new fires follow a string of recent incidents, including six fires in less than 24 hours last week. West Kelowna RCMP have arrested two men in connection with two of those fires, though authorities have not confirmed any link between the arrests and Monday’s blazes.

Officials warn that dry conditions in the area mean even small fires can spread quickly, and residents are being urged to report any smoke or flames immediately.

Fire crews continue to investigate and are coordinating with police to determine whether additional blazes are connected to the recent string of suspicious fires.
