A GoFundMe has been started with the goal of supporting a local woman who was injured in a vehicle-bicycle collision.

The online fundraiser Help Support Angel’s Accident Recovery was launched in support of Angela Anderson, who was struck by a vehicle on July 16.

The GoFundMe, started by Anderson’s daughter, Josyna, stated she was cycling along the 35th Avenue and 30th Street bike path corridor in Vernon when a truck, equipped with a cattle guard and loaded with a camper trailer, struck and ran over her.

“My mom was pulled from underneath the vehicle by some amazing community members, alongside first responders,” Josyna said in the online fundraising web page.

“She had several broken bones and a severed femoral artery in her right leg. If it was not for their quick actions she would not be here today. Our family cannot thank those who responded enough!! The paramedics, civilians, RCMP and hospital staff – our family is forever grateful to you!”

Anderson was treated at the ICU in Kelowna where she had a rod placed on her femur and a plate go in as a replacement for her shin bone, though she did lose a majority of muscle and tissue on her right thigh. She also recently was able to proceed with a skin graft, though will need a full knee replacement at a future date. As of Sept. 17, Anderson was still in hospital.

“It has been a long two months but we are very much looking forward to her release, the comfort of home and the next steps in her recovery journey,” the GoFundMe stated.

“We are now reaching out to our community, to our friends and our family for support. Reality is setting in…The medical expenses are quickly adding up and we’re only just beginning.”

The online fundraiser set a goal of collecting $15,000 to support Anderson and her family through the ongoing care and into her being released from hospital. As of time of publication the GoFundMe had raised almost $1,100.
