Vernon speaker returns home to share and inspire

Sep 19, 2025 | 3:04 PM

Born and raised in Vernon, Christian Armstrong never set out to be a motivational speaker.  But, with the hand he was dealt in life, he made a decision to not be defeated – and certainly not hide – as he is now making it his mission to encourage others to believe that anything is possible.

Now married and living in Surrey, British Columbia, Christian was diagnosed as autistic back in 2001, when he was only six years old.  Very non-communicative and extremely shy, expectations were low on what he could achieve in his lifetime.  Now, less than three decades later, he is speaking on stages across the country and inspiring countless individuals.  Christian’s story empowers students, teachers, athletes, coaches and people of all ages, demonstrating that no hurdle or obstacle is too big to overcome.  Many schools, churches and organizations have welcomed him to share his journey, including the Vernon Vipers and the B.C. Lions.

In a recent editorial, Autism Magazine wrote, “Christian is a very natural speaker.  He is inspiring and has the ability to connect with his audience.  He is passionate and, as a speaker at our summit, he was knowledgeable, confident and articulate.  And he has a great personality!”

Christian is excited to return to his hometown this weekend, speaking at a special function for the new Vernon Society Diversity Den, supporting individuals with diverse-abilities in building meaningful connections – with themselves, their peers and their communities – through inclusive programs that nurture skills, creativity and confidence.  The soup luncheon is sponsored by St. John’s Lutheran Church and Pup-N-Cup Family Cafe – Saturday, 10am, 6525 Okanagan Landing Road.  The event is free to attend, and donations will be collected for the Diversity Den.  Please RSVP 250-549-2244 or church@stjohnsvernon.ca.
