Canadian Airports Safety Week wraps up at Kelowna International Airport

Sep 19, 2025 | 2:00 PM

Kelowna International Airport joined others across the country this week in marking Canadian Airports Safety Week.

The national initiative, led by the Canadian Airports Council, focuses on promoting safe and healthy work practices for airport employees while keeping passenger safety top of mind. This year’s program ran from Sept. 15 to 19 and featured sessions on topics ranging from airside operations and security to hazard reporting, environmental protection, and psychological safety.

One highlight at YLW was a foreign object debris walk, where staff combed the apron for items that could pose risks to aircraft and crews. Chief Executive Officer Sam Samaddar says the campaign is a reminder that safety is a shared responsibility and at the core of everything the airport does.

Canadian Airports Safety Week is designed to build a culture of awareness and collaboration to maintain the highest standards across the aviation sector.
