West Kelowna RCMP crack down on retail theft with Project Sticky Fingers

Sep 18, 2025 | 10:33 AM

The West Kelowna RCMP Crime Reduction Unit conducted a targeted retail theft enforcement initiative last week, resulting in 19 arrests and the seizure of stolen property.

‘Project Sticky Fingers’ carried out on Sept. 11 – 12, aimed to address the impact of shoplifting on the community. Fourteen people were arrested for shoplifting, one for a police pursuit in the Lower Mainland, two for breaching court-ordered conditions, and four for drug possession.

The initiative also led to the recovery of a stolen bicycle, multiple weapons and drugs, and a 2006 Range Rover linked to high-value thefts and frauds across multiple jurisdictions.

Cpl. Bryan Mulrooney said the operation demonstrated the RCMP’s commitment to holding offenders accountable and working with local businesses to reduce theft and related crime.

The West Kelowna RCMP encourage residents to report retail theft or provide tips by calling 250-768-2880, 911 in emergencies, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
