Standoff in Armstrong ends peacefully
The RCMP were involved in a standoff in Armstrong Thursday morning.
Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said local police received a report of an individual experiencing a mental health crisis around 10 a.m.
Mounties learned the person may have been in possession of a firearm, so the RCMP’s Critical Incident Program was dispatched to the scene on Dunn Street. Those resources include Police Dog Service Teams, Crisis Negotiators, and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team.
The teams arrived on the scene, where they cordoned off the area and evacuated several nearby residences to allow the negotiator to do their work without putting the public at risk.
