Vernon seeking grants to help with pathway project, asset assessments
The City of Vernon is trying to secure some outside funding to offset the costs of two major projects.
The city wants to install a new multi-use pathway along Kalamalka Lake Road. The new path would connect to the existing one that runs from the lake to the Vernon Golf, and then extend all the way to Highway 6, where it would then run alongside the highway to Pottery Road. This project cost was last estimated at $5,877,000 in 2024.
The city also wants to review its assets to determine whether their capacities and performances meet the need of the community. An estimate on the cost of that work was not immediately known.
At the regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 2, Vernon City Council was presented with an opportunity to help fund this work by applying for funding from the Union of B.C. Municipalities (UBCM) through its Strategic Priorities Fund.
