Sunk boat posing potential hazard on Okanagan Lake: VSAR

Vernon Search and Rescue (VSAR) are investigating a boat that sank on Okanagan Lake.

VSAR said in a social media post that local RCMP requested the team after the overturned vessel was discovered on the water near Ellison Park on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

The search and rescuers responded in their two vessels and found the boat tied to a marker buoy, accompanied by a bright floatie.

VSAR said the sinking boat posed a potential water hazard, but thanked whoever it was that tied it up and tried to make it visible before abandoning ship.

The group said it would be out on the lake in that area in the coming days, and urged other boaters to stay clear of the sinking vessel.
