NeighbourWoods returns this fall: Plant a tree in Kelowna

Sep 2, 2025 | 9:26 AM

Kelowna residents have the opportunity to help grow the city’s urban forest this fall through the return of the popular NeighbourWoods residential tree-planting initiative.

The program allows residents to purchase up to two trees for their property at a reduced rate, with pre-orders open from Monday, Sept. 8, until Sept. 26, or until supplies run out.

This year, five tree varieties are available for $50 plus GST each, including the Bur Oak, Dropmore Linden, Ivory Silk Japanese Tree Lilac, Parkland Pillar Birch and Prairie Splendor Maple. Households are limited to one Ivory Silk Japanese Tree Lilac but may purchase up to two of the other varieties.

Residents can view tree descriptions and place pre-orders online at kelowna.ca/neighbourwoods, or by calling 250-469-8800. Online orders require an active recreation account at rec.kelowna.ca. Assistance with accounts is available by phone or email at recreation@kelowna.ca.

Tree pick-up will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mission Recreation Park Arboretum, 4105 Gordon Drive. Participants must bring a receipt if applicable, proof of residency and a vehicle suitable for transporting a tree.

In addition, about 200 native saplings will be available for purchase at a NeighbourWoods Pop-Up during the second annual Tree Festival. The festival, hosted by the Kelowna Chinese United Association and Uptown Rutland Business Association, runs Sunday, Sept. 21, from 12 to 4 p.m. at Rutland Centennial Park. Free parking is available at Roxby Square.
