Lake Country prepares for review of long-term community plan

Aug 29, 2025 | 11:48 AM

Lake Country council will review the community’s Official Community Plan (OCP) at its meeting next week, before opening the process to public input.

The OCP is the district’s long-term roadmap for how the community will grow and develop over the next 20 years. It covers everything from housing and land use to transportation, parks, culture and municipal services. The current version was adopted in 2019 with a vision stretching to 2038. Council said the review will ensure policies reflect new priorities and community values.

The following week, residents will have the chance to take part through two open houses at Municipal Hall. The first runs Wednesday, Sept. 10 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by another Thursday, Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

An online survey is also open until Sept. 30 at LetsGrowLakeCountry.ca, which includes background information and project updates.

District officials said they want to hear from a wide range of voices, including youth, seniors, businesses, First Nations and community groups, to make sure the plan reflects shared priorities. The review will roll out in phases through 2026, starting with visioning this year, then draft policies and final adoption in mid-2026.

Mayor and council said the OCP is central to shaping the future of Lake Country, balancing growth with rural character, protecting natural spaces, and building a vibrant town centre.
