Okanagan faces hot end to August with increased wildfire risk
The Okanagan is bracing for a hot and dry end to August, with Environment Canada forecasting daytime highs of 35 degrees from Monday through Thursday.
Weather officials say the heat will persist through most of the week with very little rain expected, raising concerns about dry conditions across the region. The combination of high temperatures, low humidity, and prolonged dryness increases the risk of wildfires in local forests and grasslands.
Some scattered afternoon showers may develop later in the week, but overall conditions are expected to remain hot and dry until relief arrives on Friday. Temperatures are then forecast to drop to the mid 20s with a mix of sun and cloud, offering a break from the intense heat.
More seasonal, fall like temperatures are likely to return after the Labour Day long weekend, but residents are urged to stay vigilant and follow wildfire safety guidelines until cooler weather arrives.
