New program supporting road work in Vernon

Aug 13, 2025 | 3:54 PM

The City of Vernon has launched a new Road Reclamation Program to ensure area roads are kept in good condition.

The program has a $1.1-million budget and has already been tapped for the repaving of the southbound lane of 29th Avenue in downtown Vernon, and the work on Sarsons Road from Middleton Way to the city boundary.

The program will be accessed again for three other projects in the coming weeks:

  • Paving from 9845 to 9900 Eastside Road (7 a.m. to 5 p.m. August 18 and 19)
  • Night paving on 25th Avvenue from 34th to 35th Streets (7 p.m. to 7 a.m. September 8 and 9)
  • Paving Eastside Road from Okanagan Landing Road/Eastside Road to Kokanee Road (7 a.m. to 5 p.m. September 22 and 23)

The city said these project times and dates are subject to change pending weather, contractor timelines, and other factors.

In total, 5.8 kilometres of roadway are being repaved under the Road Rehabilitation Program.

“Investing in the maintenance of Vernon’s road network is essential for managing long-term costs and extending the lifespan of roads. The network is inspected annually, with roads prioritized for repair, often involving milling and asphalt resurfacing,” the City of Vernon said in a release.

“The City schedules and coordinates road work to reduce the impact on neighbouring residents, commuters and visitors whenever possible. Depending on the location, motorists can expect minor delays and single-lane alternating traffic patterns to be in place.”

Motorists were reminded to slow down and be cautious of workers and equipment in work sites, and to follow all traffic control measures.
