A man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant has been arrested in British Columbia and returned to Ontario to face multiple charges.

Kelowna RCMP located the suspect, Stefan Holowaychuk, 54, on July 22 as part of a joint investigation involving the B.C. RCMP Fugitive Return Program, Ontario Provincial Police and the Ontario Crown Attorney’s Office.

Holowaychuk is facing charges of sexual assault, forcible confinement, assault and overcoming resistance by attempting to choke.

According to a statement from RCMP, the B.C. RCMP Fugitive Return Program worked with several agencies to coordinate the arrest and transfer.

“The B.C. RCMP Fugitive Return Program worked in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police and the Ontario Crown Attorney’s Office to extend their Ontario warrants to B.C. In collaboration with the Kelowna RCMP, the B.C. Prosecution Service and the B.C. Sheriff Service, the man was successfully arrested and returned to Ontario for prosecution,” police said.

Holowaychuk was returned to Ontario on July 27 with assistance from the B.C. Sheriff Service.

“The RCMP are thankful for the collaboration of all police and partner agencies and partnership with OPP to return this person for prosecution,” the statement added.

Police are asking anyone with information about a crime or a wanted individual to contact their local detachment.
