West Kelowna lowers Gellatly Road speed limit to 30 km/h for safety

Jul 25, 2025 | 11:17 AM

The City of West Kelowna has officially lowered the speed limit along a busy stretch of Gellatly Road to 30 km/h.

The change affects the corridor between Boucherie Road and Gellatly Road South, an area frequently used by pedestrians, cyclists, and recreational visitors. New signs are now in place, and the reduced speed is enforceable by the RCMP.

City council approved the change during its July 8 meeting, citing safety concerns and the growing popularity of the waterfront route. The road provides access to several public amenities, including parks, beaches, trails, a boat launch, playgrounds and the CNR Wharf.

Officials said the previous 50 km/h limit no longer suited the multi-use nature of the area, especially during the busy summer season. The city is working with RCMP to increase enforcement and ensure motorists adjust to the new limit.
