Construction season

Summer roadwork ramps up across Kelowna with closures and delays ahead

Jul 18, 2025 | 10:50 AM

Summer construction season is in full swing across Kelowna, and the City is warning drivers to prepare for traffic disruptions in several key areas beginning next week.

On Burtch Road, lanes will be reduced between Bernard and Lawrence avenues from Monday, July 21, through Wednesday, July 23. The closures are to allow for investigative utility work tied to the future recreation centre project planned for the site. Construction hours will run from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., though crews may work evenings and weekends to minimize daytime disruption.

Elsewhere, a major infrastructure project will affect traffic on K.L.O. Road between Como and Leader roads starting the same day. From July 21 to 24, traffic will be reduced to single-lane alternating from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. That work is part of the K.L.O. Road bridge replacement project, which also includes road upgrades and the installation of a new roundabout designed to improve traffic flow and safety.

Following that, Como Road will be fully closed between Polo and K.L.O. for approximately five days, with detours in place via Leader Road. Signage and traffic control personnel will be on-site to guide road users through the changes.

The City of Kelowna is encouraging residents to check road reports and construction updates before heading out. With multiple projects underway, officials say some delays are unavoidable but necessary as the city upgrades aging infrastructure and improves transportation corridors.
