Kelowna RCMP seek Dashcam footage following serious crash on Harvey Avenue

Jul 16, 2025 | 10:01 AM

Mounties in Kelowna are appealing to the public for dashcam or surveillance video as they continue to investigate a serious collision involving one of their own.

The incident unfolded just before noon on Monday, when a marked RCMP cruiser struck a large cargo truck at the intersection of Harvey Avenue and Bertram Street. Police say the truck had pulled over to allow emergency vehicles to pass.

The officer behind the wheel was taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. According to RCMP, the officer has since been released.

The crash forced the closure of Harvey Avenue (Highway 97) between Richter and Ellis streets for more than six hours, with all southbound lanes shut down from around 11:45 a.m. until shortly after 7 p.m.

Investigators are now hoping to gather any available video from the area.

“Anyone with dashcam or surveillance footage recorded between 11:45 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Highway 97, between Richter and Ellis, who hasn’t yet spoken with police is asked to call the Kelowna RCMP detachment at 250-762-3300 and reference file number 2025-40622,” said Cpl. Allison Konsmo in a statement.

No further details about the cause of the crash have been released. The investigation is ongoing.
