Vernon’s roundabout projects progressing on time, on budget

Progress has been made on the construction of Vernon’s new traffic control measures.

A city staff report said the Pleasant Valley Road / 39th Avenue roundabout retaining wall has been completed and crews were working on the fence and road construction.

The report, presented to Vernon City Council Monday, July 14, noted Fortis Gas was on site to install new gas mains in the lane along 39th Avenue as well.

Meanwhile, the contractor has installed curbing and half of the roundabout, and was finalizing the road paving on the west side of the Silver Star Road /Phoenix Drive roundabout as of Monday.

The report stated traffic was being detoured around these sites, and both projects were on time and on budget as of Monday.

Mayor Victor Cumming noted the work was causing some traffic issues, and thanked the public for their patience.

“We’re fully aware that this has a huge impact on anybody who lives close to [these intersections], or anybody who uses it on a regular basis,” Cumming told Vernon Matters following Monday’s meeting.

“The future is going to be so much better, so be with us, be patient, it’s going to be completed before the snow flies this fall.”
