Nearly 200 cars rolling in for Vernon Cruise-In

Hot rods, off roaders, classic cars and collector cars will roll in to Vernon for the annual Sun Valley Cruise-In this weekend.

Stephanie Everitt, chair of the Cruise-In Committee, says 177 participants have pre-registered for the annual car show. She noted that is down from previous years, though will still involve motorists coming from all over the Okanagan and further to show off their rides.

The participants will have a pancake breakfast Saturday, July 5, then go off for a drive out to Parker Cove off Westside Road.

The cars will then return to Vernon and set up in the downtown core. The car show in past years was set up along 30th Avenue, but that is changing this year due to some safety concerns around crossing the highway.

“We’re now taking 30th Avenue from 32nd to 29th [Streets], and then 29th Street we’re closing as well [for the show],” Everitt told Vernon Matters.

“So kind of an L shape [layout] we’re doing this year, which should be interesting. I think it should be good and something different.”

The cars will be on display for the public to view again Sunday at Kal Tire Place. The Cruise-In has historically been held at Polson Park, but that was not possible with the ongoing Vernon Creek Naturalization work ongoing.

“We were kind of worried a little bit, thinking at first there was some chatter about people not coming because it’s not at the park,” Everitt said.

“But when we marketed it a bit more about the indoor opportunities and also using the arena as kind of a cooling space, because the temperature will be a lot cooler inside, and a lot of people in the summer months do indoor walking, residents use the arena, so they do know that you’re protected from the elements, it’s a nice place to cool off.”

As part of Sunday’s car show there will also be live music, local vendors with their wares, and sponsor booths inside Kal Tire Place.

Everitt invited the public come out and check out the vehicles either downtown Saturday or at the arena Sunday.
