Wildfire near Chase now under control

A wildfire in the Shuswap has been brought under control a few days after igniting.

The Mount Scatchard fire was discovered at 1:19 p.m. Monday, June 30, but the B.C. Wildfire Service says it was reclassified as Under Control at around 2:22 p.m. Thursday, July 3.

The fire burned approximately 33.4 hectares of terrain and resulted in Evacuation Order and Alert being issued. The Order was downgraded to an Alert Thursday afternoon.

The fire is suspected of being caused by human activity.

UPDATE: 8 a.m. July 2

The Mount Scatchard wildfire near Chase is not expected to grow any larger.

The B.C. Wildfire Service says the fire is Being Held at 35 hectares.

The Evacuation Order and Alert issued Tuesday remain in place for the fire that is suspected of being caused by human activity.

UPDATE: 10:30 a.m. July 1

The wildfire southwest of Chase continues to grow, and has lead to an Evacuation Order being issued.

The B.C. Wildfire Service said an Evacuation Order was issued by the Neskonlith Indian Band Council, while an Evacuation Alerts was issued by Thompson-Nicola Regional District.

The fire was an estimated 35 hectares and considered Out of Control.

UPDATE: 5:35 p.m.June 30

The wildfire southwest of Chase has grown again.

As of the latest report, the B.C. Wildfire Service had the fire at an estimated 14 hectares in size.

The BCWS said it has three initial attack crews of three to four firefighters each, two additional personnel, a unit crew of about 22 firefighters, three helicopters and six skimmers responding as of the latest update. There were also two air tankers responding to the fire earlier in the day.

A unit crew and a night vision helicopter will be tasked with monitoring the fire overnight Monday.

The fire remains classified as Out of Control and is believed to be human caused.

UPDATE 3 p.m. June 30

The B.C. Wildfire Service has a better understanding on the size of the fire near Chase.

The BCWS said the fire near Mt. Scatchard is now estimated at 4 hectares.

Provincial and local fire teams are assigned to the fire, which is suspected of being caused by human activity.

A small wildfire has ignited near Chase.

The B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) said the fire was discovered southwest of the Shuswap community near Chase Creek Road at 1:19 p.m. Monday, June 30.

BCWS told Vernon Matters the fire was an “evolving situation,” though had the fire mapped at 0.25 hectares as of time of publication.

The provincial firefighting agency had dispatched three initial attack crews, a couple additional members, and air support to action the blaze. The Chase Fire Department was also responding to the wildfire.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
